Hair and Makeup: One happy bride :)

I've been busy working at home last week and also with my hair and makeup bookings. I hardly have time to upload photos or to blog or visit sites on the internet. I'd want to do a lot of product reviews but I think i'll do that later next week.

I did Hair and Makeup for a very lovely bride last June 15. She's very simple, timid and shy. She was very friendly and the groom's family was very accomodating.

Here are some photos of the look that I did for her:

Before and after look
I used 4 colors on her eyes from the dollface prism palette and estee lauder quad eyeshadow palette
Blush used: essence silky touch blush in secret it-girl
For her hair she wanted a clean side-swept ponytail :) the hair piece used was made from fresh flowers

Other products that I used for this look:

Face:

Celeteque Moisturizer
NYX HD Studio Primer
Jazzy by James Cooper Cream Foundation
Girlee Cosmetics Color Corrector
Ben nye Translucent Powder
Contour & Highlight: Powder from the Prism Palette

Eyes:

Elf eyeshadow Primer
Elf cream Eyeliner
Etude house Lash Designing Vitcara (foxy)

For me, and I believe my lovely client Doll agrees too; Makeup is not about changing our look, it's about enhancing the beauty we already have.

Happy Friday Everyone!  :)

Cold Cream as Makeup Remover: POND'S COLD CREAM

Did you know that different types of Cold Cream was invented and have been used in the beginning of the 18th Century? Physicists introduced cold creams to be used as moisturizer, makeup remover and as shaving cream. This is why you'd still probably hear your mom or grandparents talk about this wonderful invention.

As i read stories about cold creams, I came across this poem and its so fascinating that even poets raved about it, here's a few lines from the poem:

"Whoe'er with this cream shall her countenance smear,
All redness and roughness will strait disappear,
And the skin to a wonder be charmingly clear;
If pimples arise, this will take them away;
If the small-pox should mark you, those marks will decay;
If wrinkled through age, or bad dawbing the face is,
'Twill be smooth in a trice, as the best Venice glass is;
All this, and much more (could I spare time to write it,
Or my pen go as fast, as your lips would indite it)
You affirm of your cream: and I would not abuse it,"

Dr. Russell, To A Lady: in imitation of the thirtieth Epigram of the fifth Book of Martial
Source: Wikipedia

I still use cold cream if I feel dry spots on my face. Mostly on my forehead. And whenever I have heavy makeup on. I use the ever beneficial Pond's Cold Cream. The packaging was different from before but it gives the same benefit.

Did you know that Pond's Cold Cream was introduced on the 1900's and was used by celebrities and well known personalities? Awesome huh?

How I use Cold Cream as Makeup Remover:
  • Use your fingertips to apply the cold cream on your face
  • Gently massage the product on the area where there's makeup, concentrate on your eye area since we all find it hard to remove eye makeup on this area and this is one of the most sensitive skin on the face.
  • Use Baby wipes or wet ones to wipe it off
You'll notice how the cream works well in removing your makeup. I use this when I wear waterproof eye makeup and heavy foundation. The good thing about the cream is that you don't need to rub it on your face, gently wipe it off with the wet ones and you'll see that it melts the makeup in just a few seconds.

What I like about the Pond's Cold Cream:
  • I like its soothing citrus-y scent
  • It removes makeup easily in just one wipe
  • Does not dry my skin
  • Does not sting or irritate my eyes
  • Keeps my skin moisturized
  • Does not clog my pores
  • I like its cooling effect once applied on the skin

Know your Skin Care Routine

What's the secret to a healthy, young looking and glowing skin? Skin care is not just about your daily dose of Vitamin E or those expensive products you use. Let's not worry about what benefits you're getting from your favorite cleanser. Did you know that caring starts with how you treat your skin everyday?

This definition of Skin Care is perfect:

skin care
noun
the cleansing, massaging, moisturizing, etc., of the skin, especially the face or hands.

I came up with a few tips to be your guide in prepping your skin for your everyday routine. I follow these tips myself. :)

Removing makeup is one of the toughest thing to do especially when you just came home from a stressful day at work or an exhausting event;   no matter how tired and sleepy you are at night, never ever skip or forget to remove your makeup. Our skin needs time to breathe and being covered up with junk all day is crazy for your face. PLUS dirt, oil, smoke and pollution was with you throughout your day. There are convenient ways to remove makeup, I use makeup remover wipes and wet ones after whenever I feel tired whether its day or night and I still have my makeup on.

According to dermatologists, stick with lukewarm water every time you cleanse. Using cold water for cleansing will close up our pores which makes it difficult for us to remove the dirt. While washing with hot water will make our skin dry.

Try to get your entire face wet to make sure that you get all the spot on your face cleansed. Also, never apply too much facial wash or cleanser on your face, avoid using excess product; a pea size amount would do. Wiping your face off with a tissue or cotton pads will make it easier for us to remove the residue of oil and dirt and then take a few splash of cold water to close down those slightly opened pores and to keep the nutrients and moisture you can get from your facial wash.

Don't forget to moisturize. Don't put too much moisturizer on your face, the "Less is more" rule applies to this step as well. If you have normal to dry skin, try a richer hydrating cream or aqua gel moisturizers. If you have oily and combination skin stay away from heavy moisturizers and focus on the areas of your face that appears dry. Slowly and softly pat your fingers to your face when applying, and massage the product gently to your skin.

And lastly, drink plenty of water. This is the perfect way to hydrate your skin from the inside.

Get rid of those Blackheads with iWhite Nose Pack

I will give you a quick review of the iWhite Nose Pack :)

About iWhite:

iWhite is a whitening skin care product formulated in Korea. It specializes not only in lightening the skin tone, but also in improving the overall texture of the skin through its moisturizing and rejuvenating natural plant extracts refined through Bio-Nanotechnology.

iWhite has several products targeting all skincare needs; like moisturizing facial wash, skin-clearing facial mask, dirt-removing nose pack, revitalizing and soothing moisturizer, facial cream with sunscreen, and whitening body soap which are all available in the Philippines at an affordable price.

iWhite is exclusively distributed by Biocostech Philippines.

Product Claims:

An effective solution to removing whiteheads, blackheads, and skin impurities. This cream style nose pack conveniently adjusts to your own nose shape making it easier and more effective in eliminating deep-seated dirt. It also minimizes the appearance of pores and excess oil on the nose area and even the T-zone.

For best results, use 2-4 times a week with other iWhite skincare products.

What I like about the iWhite Nose Pack:

I love how it adheres to your skin very well, its consistency is from liquid like that dries out like cement or glue in a few seconds.

It removes my blackheads and whiteheads after about 8-10 minutes of having it on my nose.

The mask is easy to pull off once it dries up

Does not irritate my face at all

The product eliminates the appearance of whiteheads and blackheads that I have on my nose, so it looks clean.

Does not dry out skin

Php 18 available at mercury drug

What I don't like about the iWhite Nose Pack:

It did not remove all those stubborn dirt that I have on my first use (teeny weeny whiteheads are still there) so you need to use it like every other day

You'll need to apply generous amount to cover your nose area (even the bridge if you like) because it creates bubbles and will appear thin if you don't use that much.

I used it twice the week after I bought the sachets and i felt a stinging sensation on my nose area while applying the product and it turns red after pulling the mask off.

My pores got bigger on the nose area after several use

First layer application - It creates bubbles if you apply a thin layer

Second layer application

Eeew :)

Things to remember:

It's up to you if you want to use the product everyday but I suggest you use it twice or three times a week.

Tone and moisturize after iWhite nose pack application to avoid drying out your skin or to minimize your pores ( I apply night cream or day cream after toning)

Have fun in taking away those gunk! :-)

Wet N Wild MegaLast Lip Color - Mauve Outta Here 907C

Let's  talk about the Wet N Wild MegaLast Lip color and what I love about it :)

Product Detail:

Lips take center stage! This 4-hour, longwearing lip color leaves a semi-matte, crème finish in one stroke. Glides on easily with rich, velvety color that doesn't cake, feather, or bleed. Made with hydrating skin-care ingredients: Hyaluronic Microspheres provide extraordinary adhesion to lips, an exclusive polymer complex offers cushion-like feel and texture, and natural marine plant extracts Coenzyme Q10 and Vitamins A & E help smooth lips.

What I love about the Wet N wild MegaLast Lip color:

Whenever I apply lipstick to my clients I make sure that I get the exact color they want. I have a hard time dealing with clients who has lip pigmentation (darkening or lightening of lips) and such. So I always end up mixing lip colors or applying foundation to their lips. The main thing I love about the Wet N Wild MegaLast Lip Color is that it does what it claims to be; the colors they carry are gorgeous on their tube as well as when applied on the lips. What color you see is what you get on your lips.

It is easy to apply and does not cake. With just one stroke you get as much color you want

It is indeed a long-wearing lipstick, I  tried wearing this lipstick for more than 4 hours (without touch ups) It stayed on my lips and did not bleed at all nor flake away.

What I care for most in buying lipsticks are their finishes. (their final feel and look) this product leaves a semi-matte and creme finish which does not appear to be dry or shiny.

It contain Vitamins A & E for smoother lips (I care about this a lot because most semi matte and matte finish lipsticks contains dehydrating formulas)

The shade that I have here is Mauve Outta Here 907C which is a cool undertone light pink. The Wet N Wild MegaLast Lip Color line has a variety of shades to choose from, I believe there are 26 shades available. They come in corals, pink, red, wine and dark colors too.

You can definitely wear this lipstick at various events and occasions,  whether in the day time or for an evening gathering, things can never go wrong with this gorgeous lip color. It gives full to medium moist coverage that does not feel sticky.

I believe that the price range of this lipstick here in the Philippines is in between Php 290 - Php 300. I got this for only Php 150 :)

How to know your skin type

I personally believe that in order for skin care products to work on our face we need to figure out first the type of skin we have. Some women get confused and the majority may not have an idea of what they have at all. I don't like using facial products that are not specifically made for my skinand I check product labels and description first before every purchase.

Here are some tips an tricks on how to find out what your skin type is:

  • Wash your face and pat it with a clean face towel
  • Wait for at least 15 minutes for your face to get back to its normal state
  • Take some tissue or paper towels (tissue for drying hands) or a yellow pad paper (this also works!)
  • Gently press it on all sides of your face (your forehead, cheeks, t-zone, temples, chin)
After doing these steps you will then figure out that you have:

Normal Skin - If you see no oil traces on the paper and if your face feels smooth and can still feel moisture.

Normal skin is not too dry (there's still moisture) and not too oily. People who have this skin type can be more likely comfortable in any situation and weather. I consider myself having a Normal skin since I don't feel too much oil and I rarely experience having a dry skin. People even ask me if I use special products for my face for it to be smooth but I don't.

Oily Skin - If the paper stick to your skin and if it feels greasy

Friends and relatives I know who has oily skin tend to have larger pores, their face seemed to be very shiny (not glowing) and they sweat a lot too. They are also prone to blackheads and break outs, mainly because their skin produces excessive sebum caused by over-active sebaceous glands. On the bright side, people who have oily skin are less prone to wrinkles, fine lines and aging.

Dry Skin - If you don't see any oil or sweat on the paper but redness and roughness

You will notice at first hand if a person have dry skin when their face appears to be flaky and dull. It looks and feels rough too. Finding the right product to use is the most important thing that you need to consider when you have dry and cracking skin. Proper care and maintenance is one factor, and finding the right cleanser and moisturizer is very important.

Combination Skin - If the paper picks up traces of oil in the T-zone (the area on your face from the forehead to the bridge of the nose to the chin)

This is the combination of the 3 skin types that I mentioned above, people who have combination skin has dry parts on the cheek area, similar to red patches that are sometimes itchy. You most probably have a smooth and even skin texture but the t-zone area is a bit oily. Your forehead may be slightly oily or dry too. You will still see the appearance of medium sized pores on the cheeks and the rest part of your face is normal to dry.

Go Natural sometimes:)
No matter what type of skin you have it is important to be very cautious in choosing which products to use. Learn how to take care of your skin and start having your personal skin care routine and use products suitable for its natural balance. Don't try products just because your favorite celebrities endorse them, or your friend or sister uses them, it may react to your face differently because they may have different skin types, it will definitely not work or worse may cause serious problems. Try creating your own regimen according to your skin type and age. And lastly, choose products that are safe and effective; try and test them, do some research or seek expert advice. :-)
